Week 8 (2021)

Trail has been uneventful, oh wait, I got poison oak on little chezwick😬. The trail is very overgrown in parts and a lot of downed trees across the trail.

Finished out the 2nd month with 847 miles which is 100 less than what I wanted so I’m making up for it now doing 40 plus miles per day (did 45 yesterday.)

Never a dull moment, especially now that I’m applying ointment to my schlong 4 times a day.

Happy hiking hiker trash!✌🥾🤷‍♂️

Week 7 (2021)

Forgot about that 14 mile uphill out of Beldon from last time😓 But I was able to take my fourth shower and do my 3rd laundry of the trail there!😬

Did 22 miles in and was planning on leaving when a camper said he would cook pork chops and pork loin if I stayed, so I stayed. Old station was an eventless resupply and they only had plain vanilla pints of ice cream. Since leaving there my pace has been consistent mid 30s and I’m arriving at Saied Valley next week and on to Oregon!

Where I’m at now is near Mt. Shasta where I wasn’t able to continue North in 2017 due to the wildfires, so I’m excited to do this new section of trail.

Also, I broke another trekking pole the other week. That’s 4 now😕.

Hike on hiker trash!🥾✌

Week 6 (2021)

Finally, finally, FINALLY feeling better. Made it to Echo Lake and pounded 3 pints of Ben and Jerry’s and got back onto my 30-plus mile pace. Resupplied in Soda Springs at Donner Pass ( yes, where the wagon train cannibalism happened) and got new shoes. Left my old ones next to the trash can and they were taken before I left!

Snow pack has finally finished but it was a slog and a bit sketchy. Sent my micro spikes home and now it’s a sprint to Old Station and Saied Valley and into Oregon!

Hike in hiker trash!✌🥾

Week 5 (2021)

Toughest week so far!

After resupplying in Mammoth I finally made it back to the trail after a 16 mile off-trail round trip and ended the day at Reds Meadow Junction. The next day I hit Island Pass at noon and from there it was non stop post-holing and route finding to the top of Donohue Pass which I got to at 6:30. The wind and snow picked up and I made camp 2 miles below just before Tuolumne Meadows. Had a freezing sleepless night and woke up to 5 inches of snow.

The winds continued the entire day with snowfall and trail breaking. Finally pitched my tent at 7:30 having enough of that shit and hoping the following day would be better. Froze again that night and woke up to another 3-4 inches. More of the same and met a couple who were turning around because of the conditions.

After breaking more trail and getting lost numerous times I was able to put together a 26 mile day and camp on the side of a mountain. Another sleepless night I woke up and decided enough was enough and powered through 2 passes and made it to the Emigrant Trail junction with just enough cell service to call Kennedy Meadows North. They said they would keep that back door open for me and would have a bed waiting. After descending steep, trackless snow fields in the dark I arrived at Sonora Pass at 9:45, 33 miles from where I started the day.

From there I did a 10 mile road walk and arrived at KMN at 12:30 am. Exhausted, I crashed. I planned on leaving the next day but other than just being tired from the last 3 days I also didn’t feel well. So I took my first rest day. The next day I felt just as bad but had to get back on trail. The shuttle dropped me off at 10:30 and after only a mile or so laid down and slept for 2 hours. My stomach hurt, my head was pounding and I felt nauseous all day. Eventually, after only 9 miles I pitched my tent.

I woke up feeling better the next day but after taking my ibuprofen, vitamin gummy and caffeine pills about a half hour later I started feeling shitty again. I hiked on until noon, losing the trail in snow and post-holing a lot. During this break I looked at my pill bag and realized there was some liquid inside it and the gummies were flat and melted. That’s when I realized the bottle of 100% deet that I had, which I knew had leaked into my miscellaneous bag also leached into my pill bag and my toothbrush case. Essentially I have been poisoning myself with deet for the past week and not realizing it!

I’m 30 miles from South Lake Tahoe now and feeling a bit better. Between the storm and the poison, my pace really took a beating but I’ll make it to Soda Springs by Monday for my next box. Things happen on the trail and you try and prepare for them, but poisoning myself for a week wasn’t one of them!😳🤷‍♂️🥾✌

Week 4 (2021)

Kennedy Meadows to Mammoth Pass 6 days 5 hours

After having a scorpion in my tent the second day out of KM I got my stride and made good time. Glen Pass was the sketchy one. Spikes on both sides. Would have been easier if I didnt break my 3rd trekking pole on the way up it! After losing the trail for an hour i was only able to make 25 miles on the 15th, but finished out the section with a 31.5, 34, and a 39. Rounding out my first month total at 939 miles. Now resupplying in Mammoth and getting back to the trail. Not looking forward to the storm tomorrow😬

FYI- there wasnt a single pass where I felt an ice axe was necessary. Spikes definitely for a couple and snowshoes for Muir Pass would’ve been nice. 90% of that section of trail is covered in snow. Also, the trail after Silver Pass has a lot of snow leading to Mammoth Pass Junction.

Hike on Hiker Trash!🥾✌🤪

Week 3 (2021)

KOA to Kennedy Meadows

Sorry it’s been so long, something about paying for wifi and I just cant do it. Also, without internet access I cant upload my location, so sorry for that.

Did the 258 to KM in a week. In that time i lost my hat in crazy wind near tehachapi, ate an old can of green beans with ketchup at McGivers cabin and crushed a can of SPAM at Walkers pass. Feet are getting better, happy to be done with the desert!

Week 2 (2021)

Arrived at the PCT in Cabazon, Ca mile 209 on the night of the 27th. 235 miles and one week later arrived at the KOA in Acton. Picked up my resupply. MOST hikers have been nice and the trail is great for the most part. It’s nice not pounding pavement and knowing where water sources are. It’s also nice to talk with other hikers. 1 week to Kennedy Meadows and the real hiking will begin!

Week 1 (2021)

First week was tough! First day was tough! Both trekking poles are broken, ripped my shorts and my arms and legs are scratched all to hell! Heat is hard to get used to, but I’ve kept my 30 mile average. Water has been non existent so the carries have been extra heavy. Tomorrow I’ll resupply in Morongo Valley and make it to the PCT by the end of the day.
